Marks changed the veld around his house into a parklike garden. He had thousands of trees planted as well as large orchards. In addition there were formal flower beds and avenues flanked by pruned hedges. In 1906 Bertha laid out a formal rose-garden on the western side of the house. Kerbstones from Marks's own factory surrounded all the beds.

Go and have a look for yourself:

The rose-garden

The informal garden and white gates

The herb-garden and cooler rooms

The maze and orange-grove

The flag-pole garden

The pear-orchard
