In the south-eastern corner of the garden a pear orchard containing 36 pear trees was planted. Further to the east, away from the house, was another orchard where peaches, apricots and plums were cultivated. There are indications that Cecil John Rhodes was inspired by Marks to start fruit farming in the Cape.
