The Sammy Marks Museum is part of a historical complex that comprises the mansion, gardens, outbuildings and also part of the original farm Zwartkoppies.  Different structures like the cow-shed, stables and coach-house, wine-cellar and five picturesque Victorian cottages used by Sammy’s staff are included.

The Sammy Marks Museum at Zwartkoppies.

At Zwartkoppies, east of Pretoria, Marks built a mansion for himself and his family, which he named Zwartkoppies Hall. The house is surrounded by formal and informal gardens typical of the Victorian era.

The museum is unique because most of the contents originally belonged to the Marks family. In 1906 Bertha Marks drew up an inventory of the movables in each room.  This inventory is used during the restoration of the furnishing of the house.
