The lake was created by Marks to enable guests to enjoy boating and swimming. The lake covered an area of 150 square yards (125,4 square metres) with an island in the centre used for picnics. Boats were ordered from England. Swans were also imported to grace the surface.

The gable gates

As one walks down the road, one passes through a set of gable gates built in "Russian Gable" style. An identical set can be seen near the croquet court. The roads that passed through these gates were service roads for the farm, one leading to the lake.
