The wine-cellar at Zwartkoppies

This building, used by Marks to store his wine, was built in the 1890s. Like many other wealthy people, Marks regularly ordered wine from overseas. The cellar is partially sunken to provide a cool and dark environment which ensured that the wine kept well.

The servants' bathroom, now a nostalgia shop.

Close to the wine-cellar is a red corrugated iron structure. This was used as a wash-room for the servants. Behind and above the wash-room was a wooden structure that used to support a huge steel water tank. At present the tank can still be seen lying on the ground behind the wash-room. This tank served as household reservoir.
