Crater Chat
  1. No person is allowed to bring any domestic or wild animals into the Tswaing area.
  2. Firearms, traps, snares, catapults, crossbows, bows, explosives or similar weapons or devices are prohibited.
  3. Vehicles are only allowed on roads as indicated. The driver must be in possession of a valid driver's licence.
  4. The speed limit is 30 km per hour.
  5. No vehicle may be driven in such a manner that it constitutes a danger to any person or animal.
  6. Fire may only be made at places set aside or designated for that purpose. All fires must be extinguished after use.
  7. Throwing away of any burning object (such as a cigarette butt) is prohibited.
  8. No one may gather firewood on Tswaing. It is available at the office.
  9. No plants may be damaged or removed in any way.
  10. It is an offence to catch, disturb, allure or feed any animal.
  11. No person is allowed to place a name, letter, figure, symbol, drawing or any other mark on any rock, tree, building, notice board or road.
  12. No person may tamper with or remove any geological, archaeological or historical material without prior permission of the Acting Manager.
  13. Swimming is not allowed.
  14. Refuse, litter and other harmful objects or liquid may be discarded only in containers or places set aside or designated for that purpose.
  15. The water of the crater lake, river, wetland, reservoirs, drinking dams and boreholes may not be contaminated or polluted or have any repulsive or harmful material, refuse or litter thrown or otherwise placed therein.
  16. No person may do anything or use any appliance (such as radios and sound equipment) in such a manner that it may be a disturbance to any other person or animal, and no electricity will be provided for sound systems unless by prior arrangement.
  17. No person shall, unless authorised:
    a) Present any public entertainment
    b) Collect money from the public
    c) Carry on trading
    d) Distribute any pamphlet, book, handbill or any other printed or written matter
    e) Hold or address any public meeting
  18. No person may be present on the Tswaing area whilst under the influence of liquor or any other dependence-producing substitute.
  19. No person may relieve himself or herself at any place other than in the designated sanitary convenience.
  20. The Tswaing staff is allowed to stop or search any vehicle without a warrant.
  21. No person may take any vehicle into the crater without prior official permission
  22. No person may stay overnight in any part of Tswaing without the knowledge of the Acting Manager, except at prearranged sites.
  23. Visitors must first report to the Office upon arrival.
  24. These Rules and Regulations can be enforced in terms of the Transvaal Nature Conservation Ordinance (No 12 of 1983). In terms of Proclamation 22 of 31 March 1995, this legislation is still applicable in the Gauteng Province in which Tswaing is situated.
