The National Cultural History Museum has an extensive collection of artworks. The policy had always been to collect art of a cultural historic value. Works of high merit has been assembled from well-known South African artists like JH Pierneef, Erich Mayer, Coert Steynberg and Frans Oerder. Museums do not only collect an preserve art. Its also an important resource and aid to research. By means of display the public should also enjoy it. This exhibition portrays a sense of fusion through art in various ways: Art reflect society as artists fuse cultural background, social conditions and the environment in a creative way. Arts is also a record history. This exhibition reflects South Africa from pre-colonial existence, through pioneering times right through to the new democratic period as portrayed by various artists. |
