Distribution: Zaire, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia
Status: Locally common resident
Habitat: Dry woodland near water, moist woodlands and edges of riverine forests.
General habits: Usually in pairs, feeding individually and keeping in vocal contact. Pairs roost together in tree cavities.
Feeding habits: Forages on branches and low dense foliage. Diet consists of figs, fruit, berries, insects including beetles and probably ants.
Breeding habits: Territories irregular, often along streams. Nest defended against barbets and woodpeckers.
  Egg laying: Varies in different regions.
  Nest: Excavated by both adults in tree or stub up to 10m. The small entrance is often on the underside of the branch.
