Distribution: Chad, Sudan and Uganda.

Status: Uncommon to locally common resident. Little is known of this species.

Habitat: Riverine trees, wooded grasslands and cultivated areas. Also manages to live about Eucalyptus plantations.

General habits: The Black-breasted Barbet is conspicuous and social. They tend to frequent trees with dense foliage.

Feeding habits: They are apt to feed in one place for a long time. Their diet consists of figs, cultivated fruit and possibly insects.

Breeding habits: They nest in groups with one or two helpers.

Nest: The nest hole is excavated in a dead tree or stub of live tree at a height of approximately 5m.
Eggs: Undescribed.

Young: Food is carried to the young in its bill but it also possibly regurgitated.
